Downpatrick Head Glamping – Ceide Glamping Mayo Review

There’s so much glamping to experience in Ireland, and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Céide Glamping. Located just outside Ballycastle, this spot offers something truly unique. From your glamping pod, you’re treated to the most incredible view. As you gaze through the double doors of your pod, Downpatrick Head and the iconic Dún Briste sea stack are just across the water from you. I honestly don’t think you’ll find a view like this at any other glamping site in Ireland. In fact, it could have been named Downpatrick Head Glamping.

Location and Accessibility – Mayo Glamping

Céide Glamping is tucked away in rural North Mayo, and is a real escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The glampsite is nestled in a quiet setting along the coastline, with Downpatrick head just across the water. It makes the perfect getaway for those looking to unwind and connect with nature.

Despite the remote location, Céide Glamping is easily accessible by car, with well-maintained roads leading you to the site. It’s just a short drive from Ballycastle – literally 5 minutes outside the village.

Facilities and Amenities – Downpatrick Head Glamping

The glamping pods at Céide Glamping have everything you need for a relaxing stay. Inside your pod, you’ll find an open-plan living room and kitchen, and through a doorway, there’s a cosy double bedroom with an en suite. You might expect the space to feel a little bit cramped, but I was really surprised by how roomy it was. Especially the bathroom. The shower was much bigger than I expected, and the whole bathroom felt really spacious.

The kitchen is well-equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and hob, so you can easily cook your meals in the comfort of your pod. If you’re in the mood for something more elaborate, there’s a communal indoor cooking area with a cosy snug. The communal kitchen has extra amenities like BBQ facilities and even an air fryer, which is a nice touch. It’s in a lovely wooden cabin and feel so welcoming.

Since Ballycastle is a small village, I’d recommend bringing food with you to cook or heading to the local hotel down the road for a meal. There aren’t a lot of options nearby. I had originally planned on getting a takeaway, but with limited options, I ended up driving to Killala to pick up some bits to cool (it’s only about 15 minutes drive away).

Any negatives? Ceide Glamping

I’d honestly stay here in a heartbeat. If I HAD to say one thing, I really wish the place had a hot tub outside the pod facing the headland the opposite side. But that’s me being picky. I’m always mad for a hot tub! So honestly I’d stay here tomorrow again!

Overall Experience – Downpatrick Head Glamping

I really enjoyed my stay here. As someone who’s pretty outdoorsy, I absolutely love a glamping stay and this one met all my expectations. I was so happy in my pod I didn’t fully explore the grounds until leaving which is when I discovered the communal area. Honestly I was disappointed I didn’t check it out earlier because it would be a lovely place to play cards or boardgames in the evening.
If I had the opportunity to stay again I definitely would.
